Tomatillos History

More than 20 years ago, Tomatillos first opened its doors on downtown San Antonio’s main thoroughfare of Broadway. The neighborhood was an eclectic blend of historical landmarks, modern structures, blinking neon signs, colorful murals, and a variety of ethnic fare.

Tomatillos was far from the only Mexican restaurant in San Antonio, but it captured the festive spirit of the city’s culture and drew locals from all areas of town. The authentic Tex-Mex cuisine and festive atmosphere attracted out-of-town visitors as well.

Dwight Lieb has owned and run Tomatillos from its beginning. A friendly and warm San Antonio businessman, Mr. Lieb believes that his customers deserve an experience rather than just a meal. So he assembled a bright and happy staff to give his customers the very best service, a menu that features dishes rich in Tex-Mex flavor, and a spacious dining room complete with lively music, twinkling lights, a charming waterfall and colorful decorations.

Tomatillos is a family of cooks and waiters, hostesses and bartenders, many of whom have worked in the restaurant for years. Below are pictures of Danny, Mary and Bryan who have grown up working at Tomatillos and who are favorites with our customers.
